Jan Pogány Home                 Biography                   Music                   Painting             Contact • Calendar Jan Pogany, a conductor, composer and  cellist, was a laureate of the 2nd award at the International Composer Competition in Torrenvieja in Spain and  he was awarded a bronze medal at the International Composer Competition in Luxembourg . Since 2014 he is the General Director of the International Brahms Festival in Wroclaw (Poland). He studied conducting and cello at the University of Music in Munich (Germany), earlier Jan Pogany  also studied at the Music Academy in Wrocław (Poland ). His professors during his studies and the master class were, among others the famous conductor Sergiu Celibidache (Director of the philharmonics in Berlin and Munich), cellist Harvey Shapiro professor at the Juilliard School in New York and Rodion  Shchedrin russian composer. As cellist  Jan Pogany  gave a solo concert for Prince Charles Mountbatten- Windsor, the heir to the British throne. Having completed his studies he cooperated with Opera House in  Augsburg (Germany), then in this opera theatre he held the position of General Musical Director for 9 years. He has collaborated as a guest conductor with many orchestras in many countries, among others with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Paris Chamber Orchestra, Amati Ensemble Munich, Symphonists of Copenhagen , Polish Camerata Wroclaw  Orchestra, Korean Chamber Orchestra from Seoul and with orchestras from Japan, Germany, Greece, Italy and Poland. He performed in many well-known concert halls, including in Munich Philharmonic Concert Hall, Herkulessaal in Munich, Wiener Musikverein Concert Hall, Radio Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Papal Basilica  in Rome and Aula Leopoldina in Wroclaw. He has a large repertoire, from baroque music, the greatest works of famous classical and romantic composers, symphonies by Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven also No. 9, opera and film music. He made recordings, among others, for the Bavarian Radio and Television in Munich, for the German Sat1 Television and also for Polish Radio and TV. The Spain Television recorded his performance of Chopin's music in the Carthusian Monastery at Valldemossa , (Mallorca ) where Chopin stayed in the winter of 1838/39/. Pogany composed a violin and orchestra piece named “Oman's Serenade”. It is his tribute to the country and an attempt at expressing his respect for it. Among his works are also operas: "An acrobat" and "Miramare” - about the story of  Maximilian I a younger brother of the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph I, a musical "A cruise" and “Requiem " , also film music, among others, to a detective TV series for the German Sat1 Television. His music adopts the romantic style and is a symbiosis of the modern form of romantic harmony and lyrical melodic line. Jan Pogany is also known as the organizer of many famous international music festivals, opera galas and concerts in Europe. He is the founder and chief conductor of the Polish  Orchestra  Camerata – Wrocław and he is the director and conductor of string orchestra Amati Ensemble Munich. For many years he was very successful as a cello teacher in Germany at the Munich High School of Music. Jan  Pogány -  dyrygent , wiolonczelista , kompozytor i malarz , był laureatem  II nagrody na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Kompozytorskim w Torrevieji  (Hiszpania), następnie w roku 2009 otrzymał brązowy medal na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Kompozytorskim  w Luxemburgu  za utwór Fantazja na skrzypce i orkiestrę. Od 2014 roku jest Dyrektorem Generalnym  Międzynarodowego Festiwalu im. Johannesa  Brahmsa we Wrocławiu. Studiował grę na wiolonczeli oraz dyrygenturę w Wyższej Szkole Muzycznej w Monachium, Naukę kontynuował w klasie mistrzowskiej dyrygenta Sergiu Celibidache, a wcześniej uczył się także w Akademii Muzycznej we Wrocławiu. Naukę muzyki rozpoczął w klasie fortepianu pod kierunkiem Jadwigi Banowicz- Kity w Państwowym Ognisku Muzycznym w Brzegu, a następnie w klasie wiolonczeli Zofii Nowak w Państwowej Szkole Muzycznej I stopnia w Brzegu.  W roku 1988 Jan Pogany  zagrał na wiolonczeli  jako solista w Filharmonii Monachijskiej koncert dla  księcia Karola Mountbatten-Windsor  następcy tronu angielskiego. Po zakończonych studiach przez wiele lat tworzył duet   grając  na wiolonczeli   wraz z polską pianistką  Urszulą Mitręgą . Następnie także jako dyrygent  rozpoczął stałą współpracę z Operą w Ulm i w Augsburgu / Niemcy i z wieloma orkiestrami m.in. Orkiestrą Filharmonii w Seulu, Paryską orkiestrą Kameralną, Orkiestrą Symfoniczną w Kopenhadze, Cameratą Wroclaw, Amati Ensemble Monachium ,Koreańską Orkiestrą Kameralną z Seulu oraz  z orkiestrami z Japonii, Niemiec i Grecji, Włoch i Polski. Występował w wielu znanych salach koncertowych m.in. w Filharmonii  oraz w Herkulessaal w Monachium, w Sali Koncertowej Radia w Kopenhadze, w Katedrze Notre Dame w Paryżu, w Bazylice Papieskiej Św. Pawła za Murami w Rzymie, w Auli leopoldina oraz w Sali Koncertowej Radia Wrocław.Dokonał nagrań  m.in. dla Radia i Telewizji Bawarskiej  w Monachium , dla niemieckiej rozgłośni TV  Sat1, także dla  TVP1, TV Trwam, Polskiego Radia we Wrocławiu, Szczecinie i Koszalinie,  Rozgłośnia Telewizji w Madrycie zarejestrowała w jego wykonaniu muzykę  Fryderyka Chopina  podczas występu w klasztorze kartuzów w Valldemossie na Majorce (w miejscu gdzie F. Chopin przebywał podczas  zimy na przełomie 1838/39 roku ).W 2012 roku rozpoczął  współprace z Royal Opera House w Muskacie  stolicy Omanu na Półwyspie Arabskim gdzie we wrześniu 2012  dyrygował koncertem z udziałem francuskiego  pianisty i kompozytora muzyki filmowej Michel Legrand. Wśród jego kompozycji znajdują się m.in. Requiem Smoleńsk in memoriam, którego prawykonanie odbyło się w Sali Koncertowej  Polskiego Radia we Wrocławiu w 2011 roku w pierwszą rocznicę katastrofy smoleńskiej, utwór ten już wielokrotnie był wykonywany w wielu krajach ,a w 2014 został zaprezentowany przez japońskich wykonawców w Sali Filharmonii w Hiroszimie. Jan Pogany napisał także  opery „Akrobata” i „Piasek Omanu”, musical „Rejs”,  „Japan Rapshody” , Kantatę Kołobrzeską na czworo solistów, chór i orkiestrę, którą  skomponowana na zamówienie Prezydenta Miasta z okazji 750- lecia Kołobrzegu, a także muzykę filmową m.in. do serialu kryminalnego niemieckiej telewizji SAT1.W 2014 roku dokonał prawykonania utworu na  skrzypce i orkiestrę pt. Serenada Omańska. Był założycielem Orkiestry Kameralnej Camerata-Wrocław, jest dyrektorem i dyrygentem Orkiestry Amati Ensamble München oraz Brahms Symphony Orchestra. Studiował także  malarstwo w klasie  prof. Gerharda Merza. w Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Monachium , jego obrazy brały udział w wielu wystawach w Niemczech, Austrii  i Polsce Concert at the Philharmonic Hall in Munich cond.
